Glen Clova is an ideal base for many activities from hill walking, Munro bagging, climbing, fishing, shooting, stalking, to cycling and pony trekking. The numerous old Drove Roads, forest tracks and hill paths provide scenic terrain on which to enjoy many pursuits.

Impressive landmarks to look out for include the Airlie Monument and Clova Castle, which in addition to the natural landscape features of Loch Brandy and Loch Whirral and the seven Munroe's of Glen Clova and Glen Doll offer plenty to do in the glen all year round.

Annual attractions in Clova include Highland Games, the Glen Clova Road Race, The Clova Sheepdog Trials, BBQ's, rallies and Beer Festivals throughout the year as well as the ever popular Hogmanay celebrations.

Fishing

There is salmon and sea trout fishing available on the River Esk as well as brown and rainbow trout fishing on several lochs.

The river is small and easily fished with a single handed rod. It fishes best after rain when the level is dropping and fresh fish have arrived. Fishing permits for the top of the glen can be obtained from the Clova Hotel. You can also obtain permits for fishing on Loch Heath, a new loch stocked with rainbow trout, or on Loch Brandy, which has brown trout and pike.

Fishing at the bottom the glen is available from the Kirriemuir Angling Club. Visitors permits are available from Don Powell, Newsagent, Bank Street, Kirriemuir or from the secretary of Kirriemuir Angling Club. Fishing is by fly only except in spate conditions when spinning is allowed.

Shooting.

For information about stalking and pheasant shooting please contact W R Hardy Gunsmiths 01307 466635 (Day time Tel No.) or the Clova Hotel.
