RETREAT EVENTS FOR 2010
The Retreat is planning a rich variety of events to suit everyone over the coming season, these include:
May is Museums Month - new exhibition to celebrate museums month – the old and the new – compare the tools we used in the past with the ones we use today- and see if you can recognise any!
Monday 3rd May –To Celebrate Tayside Biodiversity Festival
Family Art Event with Angus Arts – ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’
Create a crazy costume, enjoy a curious woodland adventure, discover an invitation to the Mad Hatter's tea party. 12pm to 1.45 pm and 2.15pm to 4.00pm. Child £4.50 (to be accompanied by adult) including refreshments. Free bird boxes and Rowan trees for all visitors, subject to availability. Saturday 8th May – Free stonecarving demonstration by Neil Paterson.
Sunday 6th June – Return of the very popular walk to Lost Village of Glenesk. Numbers limited, please book in advance and for full details: 01356 670242. £15 per adult (children free) includes refreshments and booklet.
Saturday 10th July – walk with Angus Ranger service along Loch Lee includes refreshments and tour of the museum – meet at the Retreat at 2pm. Numbers limited – please phone to book: 01356 648070. (You might want to book an evening meal for after the walk – not included in the price. Retreat closes 6pm.)
Thursday 22nd July – Cairngorms Ceilidh Trail – the enthusiastic young musicians are back! Playing music for free in the afternoon with an evening of ceilidh music in the evening. Dance and bar. Entry fee.
Saturday 7th August – walk with Angus Rangers to Rowan Tower – includes refreshments and tour of the museum - meet at the Retreat at 2pm. Numbers limited – please phone to book: 01356 648070. (You might want to book an evening meal for after the walk – not included in the price. Retreat closes 6pm.)
Saturday 14th August – Jess Cattanach Day: 2pm – 5pm The return of this very popular free event! Have a go at washing, dyeing, spinning – women’s tasks from the end of the 19th century! Hands on demonstrations, music and storytelling.
End of season weekend! 25th & 26th September – Hugh Fraser’s Dragoons – camp and battle re-enactment and music/dance with ‘Clachan a Choin’ Supported by Angus Council AREG scheme.
Hugh Fraser’s Dragoons – a 17th century historical re-enactment society - will be setting up camp at the Games Field, Tarfside and drilling and fighting at the Retreat over the weekend! Times of demonstrations to be confirmed. Free entry.
8pm Saturday 25th September – dance with ‘Clachan a Choin’ at the Retreat - £8 per adult, children free, bar available. ‘Clachan a Choin’ is a new ceilidh experience combining the talents of the Moonzie Allstars and well known fiddler Karen Hannah. The Moonzie Allstars are based in Angus and Fife and perform energetic Afro-Celtic and world fusion music, centred on bagpipe and whistle tunes, interwoven with foot tapping backing arrangements of West African, Arabic, Cuban, and Rock styles.

The Retreat
The Retreat Tearoom is one of the main venues for clubs and societies in the Glen, and can be booked for a variety of social functions e.g. conferences, seminars, parties, Pre-Xmas Lunches etc. by appointment.
Otherwise, the Retreat is open daily from April to October
Angus Arts
Angus Arts, founded in 2000, is a small, lively, independent charity, committed to encouraging creativity in the arts for all ages and levels of experience. Workshops, classes and other events in a wide range of arts activities, both indoors and out of doors, are held in a variety of stimulating locations, involving arts of all kinds presented in any number of ways, some of them a little surprising.
