1. Do you take medication?
2. Do you live alone or spend much of each day alone?
If the answer to both of these is “yes”, then “Message in a bottle”, which is a “FREE” service, is for you.
The idea of the scheme is that anyone in the above categories can obtain from health centres, chemists, day centres, etc., a small plastic bottle in which there is a form for you to fill in giving details of :-
1. The medication you have been prescribed.
2. The medical condition/s you have.
3. Your doctor’s name and telephone number.
The completed form should be put in the bottle which should then be put in your fridge.
There are also 3 green stickers enclosed:-
1. The largest one is to be stuck on the bottle itself. (It may already be on it.)
2. The middle sized one is to be stuck on the outside of your fridge.
3. The largest one should be placed inside your front door (away from prying eyes but visible to the emergency services). This indicates that you belong to the scheme and that details of your medical condition can be found in your fridge, which you may not be able to give if you are unwell.
The emergency services are aware of this scheme and will look for the sticker when they enter your home.
By having your medical details to hand they would be able to give you the appropriate treatment immediately which may save your life.
If you have any difficulty in accessing a provider of “Message in a Bottle” your local Rotary Club will have details.
The scheme is funded and approved by Rotary Club district 1010 (North of Scotland).
