SCVO e-petition campaign highlights "slow-burning crisis" in village halls

The campaign, led by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisation (SCVO), highlights the vital role that village halls and community buildings play in Scotland's rural communities, and emphasises that investing in their survival must be a key part of the Executive's Rural Development policy.

SCVO are launching an e-petition to the Scottish Parliament on 1st June, and circulating paper copies around Scotland's rural communities.

Angus Council received a grant to look at the feasibility of sustainable energy for rural halls. Menmuir have installed a heat pump system to provide low cost background heating when the hall is not in use, this along with replacing the windows and insulating the walls has led to a warmer and cheaper to run hall. Substantial grants were available.
