In Partnership with SCARF and the Energy Saving Trust
This group has been working to examine how renewable energy sources can be used to heat village halls.
This has looked in particular at more remote halls which are heated intermittently, and which do not have access to mains gas.
It is hoped to make halls more comfortable, to protect the halls from frost and damp, and to use heating systems which do not add carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.
Several projects have been examined and developed to date.
Kilry Hall Case Study: Killry Hall
Others are in the process of being researched and developed, and information on these can be found in the minutes of the meeting held on February 27th 07 Minutes of Previous Meeting
Date of next meeting: To be confirmed
The Village Halls Renewable energy Group was presented with the Community Award at this year's Green Energy Awards in Edinburgh in recognition for the innovative work they have been doing.
The Energy Saving Trust has published a Guide to Energy Saving Grants, which is useful for local authorities who
may print copies for residents and use it on their website.
This new guide is to help UK householders save energy and emphasise that you don’t have to be on a low income
to access grants, advice or information. The publication explains the top energy saving tips, plus information on
how to generate your own energy and how to apply for a grant. It clearly explains the stages that householders
should take in order to make their home more energy efficient.
The guide provides a comprehensive overview of what grants and offers are available to help you both save and
generate your own energy. It also includes a number of cost free energy saving tips.
